History: Lock Terneuzen

Temporary Bridge over the New Lock in Terneuzen (Construction Phase)

As part of the project 'Design and construction of a new lock within the Terneuzen lock complex,' a temporary bridge has been installed to facilitate public traffic between the N62 (Westerschelde Tunnel) and Terneuzen. This bridge is essential for traffic during the construction of the new lock in the Ghent-Terneuzen Canal, designed to accommodate larger ships.

Specifications of the Temporary Bridge:
For the temporary overpass, a combination of bridge systems JSB2 and JSK was chosen. The bridge rests on two intermediate supports anchored in the lock floor using tubular piles.

Installation Process:

  • First Bridge Section: The first part of the bridge was placed from the east side.
  • Second Bridge Section: The second part was installed using a crane stabilized on the first bridge section.
  • Final Bridge Section: The final part of the bridge was installed from the west side.

This careful installation ensures a safe and stable overpass for traffic during the lock's construction phase.
